Miriam cagers, St. Scho tossers keep WNCAA crowns Miriam College bagged its third straight crown while St. Scholastica's College retained its volleyball title, both via two-game sweeps, in the juniors finals of the 41st WNCAA over the weekend. Miriam conquered San Beda College Alabang, 55-39, to end its season unbeaten while St. Scholastica denied Miriam another championship with a 25-13, 19-25, 25-15, 25-17 triumph before a jampacked Saturday crowd at the St. Scholastica gym. On its way to the Grand Slam, Miriam swept all its 10 elimination matches and beat De La Salle Zobel in the semis, 57-44. It also won the finals opener, 68-57. Miriam's Danica Jose, a member of the RP Under-18 squad, was adjudged Most Valuable Player. Joining her in the Mythical Five were teammate Grace Marielle, Angelicum pointguard and fellow National athlete Camille Claro and San Beda's Alyanna Vergara and Paulina Vela. St. Scholastica likewise wound up its campaign unscathed after winning all its 10 elimination opponents, its Final Four duel against San Beda, 25-18, 25-17, 25-16, and the finals opener, 25-19, 25-10, 23-25, 29-27. MVP and Best Setter Princess Ira Gaiser led the SSC Scions' remarkable season. Other champions in the league being supported by official media partner Philippine Daily Inquirer, Lenovo, official print partner Manila Bulletin, Solar Sports and Monster Radio RX 93.1 are Lyceum (Senior A basketball and volleyball), host Centro Escolar University (Senior B volleyball), Philippine Women's University (Senior A basketball) and De La Salle Zobel (Midget basketball and volleyball). Badminton, cheerleading, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo are the other events set next year in the tournament also backed up by Mikasa, Molten, Sonak Sports Trading, Taichi, Mojo, CEMG, Goody, MJC Press, Suesh and Kanebo.
