RTU, CEU to dispute WNCAA cage title

Host Rizal Techonological University and elimination topnotcher Centro Escolar University stopped their respective semifinal foes on Sunday, Sept. 25, and arranged a Finals duel for the 42nd WNCAA senior basketball title.

CEU downed Philippine Women's U, 82-60, while RTU stunned No. 2 team Emilio Aguinaldo College, 44-37, at the St. Scholastica gym. CEU, undefeated in eight matches so far, and RTU start their best-of-three series this coming weekend.

De La Salle Zobel will eye twin titles when it disputes the juniors championship against St. Jude Catholic School and the midgets crown versus Miriam College.

DLSZ dumped sister school La Salle College Antipolo, 75-31, and St. Jude upset three-time defending champion Miriam, 61-56, in the juniors semis. In the midgets division, defending champion DLSZ won by default over St. Paul College Pasig and Miriam bested Poveda, 44-31.

In the volleyball semifinals of the league being supported by Mikasa, Molten, Goody, MJC Press and AGR Xperts Corporation, RTU has the twice-to-beat edge against University of Asia and the Pacific while No. 2 squad Miriam will take on San Beda College Alabang.

Angelicum College swept the juniors Group A and will battle Group B No. 2 Miriam. The other Final Four match will pit Group A No. 2 St. Scholastica's College, which has won the crown for the past two years, against Group B No. 1 San Beda.

The midgets semis will have defending champion DLSZ taking on No. 4 San Beda and No. 2 St. Scholastica battling No. 3 Poveda.
