Two more champions will be decided today when the midgets volleyball and Senior B basketball divisions play winner-take-all matches in the penultimate playing weekend of the 39th WNCAA tournament's first phase at the St. Scholastica's College gym.
St. Scholastica and San Beda College Alabang will dispute the midgets volleyball title in the 9 a.m. opener while Philippine Women's University and Centro Escolar University go at each other for the Senior B cage crown in the 3:30 p.m. main game.
St. Scholastica prevailed in Game 1, 21-25, 25-20, 25-22, while SBCA levelled the series with a 25-17, 11-25, 25-22 victory in Game 2.
The Senior B finals saw PWU winning the series opener, 47-45, but CEU struck back in Game 2, 57-52.
Miriam gets a crack at a second championship after taking the senior futsal championship when it tries to finish off SBCA in Game 2 of the junior volleyball finals at 10 a.m. A Miriam win would also make up for its Senior B finals loss to SBCA.
The Katipuneras took Game 1 in straight sets, 25-20, 25-19, 25-16.
The midgets basketball best-of-three series also begins today featuring Grandslam-seeking Miriam and De La Salle Zobel while the juniors duel pits La Salle College against Miriam.
The season's other titles have went to Lyceum (Senior A basketball and volleyball) and De La Salle Zobel (third straight junior futsal championship).
Among the other titles at stake are junior and senior cheerleading, taekwondo, swimming, athletics and badminton. (END) 17oct2008fri
